What is your 'niche market'? What group of people are you promoting to? Because you can find many relevant and commission products and services to link to from your site:

They began as email publishers and know and understand exactly what makes a good product or service to sell and make money with. They only accept products and services that they have tested in their own newsletters and have converted to a good CPM rate. They work with the merchant to make sure the product sells once visitors hit their site.

Making your web site Sticky...

Want to make your site make money?
Want to sell...again and again, retaining your customers?

Well you need to know how to make your site 'sticky', making sure that people have a need to make repeat visits.

Now that doesn't mean that we have to add new content every week (although that's a good idea - more later).
There are other ways to ensure that your visitors have a need to return.
Here are some ideas and links:

  • Survey
People love to give their opinion on things...or to find out what other people are thinking.
Get a good survey subject running (relevant to the site) and people will give it a go....and if you offer something for free, like a free subscription to your email newsletter...all the better.
    Several companies offer free surveys:
    Poll It -
    Poll Now -

  • Quizzes
Another one that people love to go for. Quizzes can be fun, interesting and relevant to the site. Go here for some help:
    Poll It -
    Quiz Creator -
    QuizPlease -

  • Offer Special Deals regularly
"Half-price! And still with that great guarantee...Well, count me in. Where do I buy?" Need I say more.

  • Discussions
Discussion groups are great for everyone. People love to discuss, share and announce. And you can be seen to help and guide.
Also a great resource from which to discover 'needs to be met'.
Here are some people who can help with providing a message board:
    ProBoard -
    SiteGadgets - and more beside

  • Weekly/Monthly Course
Several affiliations already offer free courses as part of their marketing plan. As well as the sale potential, when you know the delivery cycle you can email the recipient to make sure that they have understood everything. You look sincere (which you should be!), and are more likely to make a sale.
Offer your own course. See below - use a selection of articles as a series on a theme, sent out regularly.

  • One of the best of all, a regularly updated site.
Now if you can get your visitors name and email address (perhaps by offering them something relevant for free), you can even email about the updates.
A regularly updated site need not by a headache these days
I've built up a 'stock' of hundreds of articles and reports which are mostly up to date and are relevant (there's that word again!) to my sites.
And even better I get tens of fresh articles mailed to me every week. Here are some sources for you:
    http://www.web-source.net/articlesub.htm
    http://articlesarchives.netfirms.com/

  • But the absolutely best way to add new content is to add your own fresh words and resources! (sorry 'bout that folks)

Accept payments online...

Accepting credit cards is essential if you want to sell off your site. There are no two ways around it. A recent poll revealed that 88% of online buyers use their credit-card.

But unfortunately not all of us can walk into our own bank and ask for merchant Status.

What to do?

Fortunately there are now many companies who can help you out - for a price. And the price changes dramatically from company to company.

Starting out, it's best to bite the bullet and go for perhaps a higher percentage of sale charge rather than a lower charge and a large upfront fee.

Testing the waters with your site over a few months should tell you whether you're on to a winner, and those profits can always help you change the company who is offering you a merchant account.

Rather than list tens of companies, here are the few which I use, have found to offer a good service, are established and come with recommendations:

Charge.Com
Established 6 year company offering the lowest charges on the net - backed by a 110% guarantee. Recommendations come from the like of Apple, Excite and AOL.

Clickbank.Com
This company is ideal if you are selling an 'electronic' product, ie not shipping an actual product.
You can also link up with hundreds of other companies with relevance to your core business, and earn commissions.(Or even start a site just with a selection of these links). Sign-up is free.

Verotel.com
Webmasters worldwide use Verotel to sell the tickets for their content subscriptions on the Internet. Free box office for online subscriptions, Credit card and check billing options, no setup fee and no monthly minimums.

Non-credit card services:

PayPal
PayPal lets users send and receive money online. You can send money to anyone, and PayPal charges it to your bank account or credit card. It's faster, safer, and easier than mailing a check. Starting to be seen widely on many web and auction sites.

eGold
e-gold is an electronic currency, issued by e-gold Ltd., a Nevis corporation, 100% backed at all times by gold bullion in allocated storage.
e-gold is integrated into an account based payment system that empowers people to use gold as money. Specifically, the e-gold payment system enables people to Spend specified weights of gold to other e-gold accounts. Only the ownership changes - the gold in the treasury grade vault stays put.
