Getting the most value from your customer - Selling on the Back-end.
Back-ending - Making the most of your customers
Now I'm not being rude or taking about shunting another car up the back...
Back-ending refers to following through from your first sale or prospect capture.
One product to sell is not enough - it's just the start.
Back-end selling is having follow up products to sell. For example, your prospect finally succumbs to your great ad copy and buys your product. With the product, you present them with one or more other products which have a good selling relationship with your first product. If your sales copy is still as effective as your first product sale, you can expect further sales. And if they don't buy with the first follow up, just keep knocking at their door till they do.
So what if you don't have follow on products?
Accepted marketing on the net now insists that ezines (email newsletters) are an essential part of the marketing package. Whether it is just a tool you use to keep purchases aware of updates, or a marketing tool to sell your products, you should consider starting one now. As well as increasing your customers confidence in you, it can be an ideal format in which to present back-end products which aren't yours...
Affiliations.
Carefully placed reviews and recommendations, in your monthly/weekly bulletins will pick up sales - as long as they are relevant and genuine products. Don't ruin your reputation (which is so much harder to build on the net), by promoting non-effective and dubious products and services.

How to make a business with no product...
This is a great example on how to create a business just promoting other businesses - not easily done these days.
Frederick Mann has built a several sites just by promoting affiliations - but added value to them by providing many interesting and valuable articles and resources (all promoting his sites further)
I'm not suggesting that you directly compete with him, but creating a mini (niche) version of what he is doing, with informative original articles could be a great 'stop-gap' till you create a second product - or even make it your first product.
